Image Matters December 2007

Happy New Year!

I hope that you have an enjoyable festive season, and start the new year with renewed vigour. Thanks to all my clients - I really appreciate your business and your feedback.

Whether you need reading, driving or just sunglasses, most people wear some sort of eyewear. I'm adding a new service to specifically help my clients find flattering eyewear that works for them, to make them look more intelligent and to express their personality. Your glasses are the most noticeable accessory you wear as they sit on the face, which is your centre of communication. Have you ever thought about what you're communicating with your glasses or what you'd like to express?

Warmest wishes,

Imogen Lamport, AICI

Makeup Tips For the Glasses Wearer

1. Glasses draw attention to your eyes so your eye-makeup needs to be well applied - if you need glasses to put on your makeup - why not invest in a great magnifying mirror to make the job easier?

2. The heavier, darker or stronger the frame, the less dramatic the eyemakeup, but a stronger lip colour will help balance your face

3. The lighter, rimless or more neutral frame wearer can wear a heavier eye makeup as it's not competing with a frame.

4. If you're one of those lucky people with super long eyelashes - avoid lengthening mascaras, use volumising ones instead - you don't want your lashes touching the lens of the glasses.

5. Keep your eyebrows groomed as attention is drawn to the eye area because of glasses, those stray hairs can add 10 years to your face.

6. If you're wearing lenses that make your eyes appear smaller, ensure that your eye makeup is not too dark as it will make your eye disappear, wear lighter colours to make the eye look larger, if your skin can take it, a little shimmer in the shadow will make your eyes look larger. Avoid eyeliner on the bottom as it will close up the eye and make it look smaller. A medium to darker shadow in brown can be used instead of eyeliner on the top lid to add a ittle drama, without closing up the eye.

7. If you want to look more friendly and approachable, lighter makeup, rather than heavier or darker makeup, will help you do this.

Shopping in the Sales

It's the January Sales season and I know lots of you love a bargain - just remember the following tips before you buy that 'must have bargain'.

  • Does it fit?
  • Does it flatter your figure?
  • Is it a great colour for you?
  • Will it work with the rest of your wardrobe?
  • Is it 'you'?
  • Do you have the occassion to wear it?

If you can't say yes to all these questions - don't buy it - it's not a bargain for you and you're better off saving your money for that great item when it comes along - sale or no sale.

Testimonial of the Month

I would like to express my thanks for assisting me with my image matters. I found the experience to be quite eye opening. Overall, I found that you were concerned with what I wanted and made sure that I got what I wanted.

I enjoyed the time you took to explain different aspects of fashion, why some things worked and others did not.   I can already feel a change for the better and I would like to thank you for that.  Steven

Exercise Clothes

If you've decided to do more exercise this year as one of your New Years  Resolutions - it could be a good time to think about getting some new exercise clothes to help motivate you into the habit.

A good pair of shoes is essential to protect your feet, knees, ankles and back are essential - even if you're just taking up walking.

Wearing big old baggy t-shirts make everyone look twice their size, so find something that fits in a colour that you love.  You could pick one of your eye enhancing colours to draw attention up to the face and away from your body, or a skin enhancer to give you that healthy glow.

Not sure what your eye and skin enhancers are?  Why not book your Colour Analysis session and find out?

It doesn't matter what activity you choose - wearing clothes that flatter you will be more motivating than wearing something that you wouldn't want to be caught dead in.
